French Toast

Ingredients

  • 4 small or 2 large slices of sourdough bread

  • 1 egg

  • 3 tbsp. egg whites

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

Toppings:

  • Fresh fruit (strawberries or blueberries)

  • Whipping Cream

  • Sugar- free maple syrup

Cooking Instructions:

  • Prepare the Egg Mixture:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine 1 whole egg with 3 tablespoons of egg whites. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Whisk these ingredients together until fully blended into a smooth mixture.

  • Prep the Bread:

    • If you're using 2 large slices of sourdough bread, slice them in half to make them easier to soak and cook. For small slices, use them as is.

  • Soak the Bread:

    • Immerse each slice of sourdough bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are thoroughly coated. Allow the bread to soak for a few seconds on each side to absorb the flavors fully.

  • Cook the French Toast:

    • Heat a non-stick skillet or pan over medium/high heat. Once hot, place the egg-coated bread slices into the pan.

    • Cook each slice for 1-2 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes on the other side, or until each side is golden brown and the toast is cooked through.

  • Add Toppings and Serve:

    • Transfer the cooked French toast to a plate. Top with fresh strawberries or blueberries, a dollop of whipping cream, and a drizzle of sugar-free maple syrup to your liking.

    • Serve warm and enjoy the delightful combination of creamy, fruity, and cinnamon flavors with the comforting texture of sourdough French toast.
