Grilled Steak with Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients

For the Grilled Steak:

  • 4 (6-ounce) steaks (e.g., ribeye, sirloin, or filet mignon)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Mashed Sweet Potatoes:

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed

  • 1/4 cup milk (or more, as needed)

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak Marinade:

    • In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, chopped rosemary, and chopped thyme.

    • Rub the mixture evenly over the steaks and season generously with salt and pepper.

    • Let the steaks marinate at room temperature for 15-30 minutes.

  2. Grill the Steaks:

    • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.

    • Grill the steaks for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.

    • Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

  3. Prepare the Mashed Sweet Potatoes:

    • While the steaks are marinating, place the cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with water.

    • Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender.

    • Drain the sweet potatoes and return them to the pot.

    • Add the milk, butter, salt, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Mash until smooth, adding more milk if needed to reach the desired consistency.

  4. Serve:

    • Plate the grilled steaks alongside a generous serving of mashed sweet potatoes.

    • Garnish with additional rosemary or thyme if desired.
