Protein Penne Bolognese

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz. of Barilla Protein Penne

  • 1 ½ cups garlic marinara sauce

  • 1 pound lean (93%) ground beef

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  • Prep the Water:

  • In a large pot, bring 12 cups of water to a rolling boil over high heat.

  • Cook the Noodles:

  • Carefully add the noodles to the boiling water. Set a timer for 9 minutes, occasionally stirring to prevent sticking. Adjust the heat as necessary to maintain a gentle boil.

  • Brown the Beef:

  • Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Sprinkle the garlic powder and a pinch of salt over the beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3-4 minutes or until the beef starts to brown.

  • Add Onion:

  • Mix in the finely chopped onion to the beef, continuing to cook. Stir the mixture regularly until the onion is golden brown and the beef is thoroughly cooked, about 5 more minutes.

  • Strain the Noodles

  • Once the noodles are al dente (soft but with a slight bite), drain them in a colander and set aside.

  • Combine Sauce and Beef:

  • Pour the garlic marinara sauce into the skillet with the beef and onion mixture. Stir well and let it come to a light bubble. Then, reduce the heat to simmer, letting the flavors meld for 1-2 minutes.

  • Serve: Divide the cooked noodles among four plates. Top each serving with a generous portion of the meat sauce.

  • Enjoy: Serve hot, and enjoy your deliciously hearty Egg Noodle Bolognese!
